Class 1 Carcinogen.
Yet another thing that I *did not know* about alcohol.
(…and it makes me SO MAD.) 😠
The fact that the alcohol industry has spent billions on governmental lobbying to dodge putting ACTUAL WARNING LABELS on their products is both surprising and *not* surprising.
(…ah, the joys of capitalism.) 🙄
Ok, but why is this GOOD NEWS, you ask?
Access to high-dopamine stimuli is impacting our lives.
Calling all hustlers:
Our lives are often built around productivity and pursuit. 📈
Our worth is often defined by achievements and accolades. 🏆
And in-between the hustle and the grind, we are eating in a hurry, texting in a hurry, *resting* in a hurry, and multitasking our little faces off.
We are sending ourselves through a gauntlet of physiological highs and lows. 🎢
How our habits are formed.
THIS! This is how our habits are formed. 🔬🧠🌿🛣️
🤓 And knowledge is power, my friend.
I hope this video sparks your curiosity and helps explain a little of why using willpower is so hard.
Like bushwhacking through the brush, change is a process that gets easier over time.
To drink, or not to drink?
THAT IS THE WRONG QUESTION!
“Emotions create habits.🔬
Not repetition. Not frequency.
Not fairy dust.
...emotions.”
- Dr. BJ Fogg is a behavioral scientist at the leading front of habit change.
His research and findings play a major role in the methodology I follow and have had a huge impact in my own personal journey.
By changing the way you THINK about alcohol… you can change the way you FEEL about it.
And then your BEHAVIOR just clicks into place.
Love yourself into evolution.
“We cannot shame ourselves into change. We can only love ourselves into evolution.”
If beating ourselves up—judging and criticizing ourselves for all of the ways we wanted to improve—led to a successful, happy life... we wouldn't be having this conversation right now. 😅
You are revolutionary.
I used to drink “at” the news.
(I used to drink “at” a lot of things…)
And I remember why.
Of course I wanted to numb this darkness… of course I wanted to seek shelter from the ugliness of the world [that seems to be growing exponentially, doesn’t it?]
It’s really hard to face.
To all the beautiful deep-thinkers and deep-feelers out there trying to cope right now,
I see you.
I’m right there with you.
But let me tell you: drinking alcohol to cope with this darkness just perpetuates the dark.
What if a break from booze could improve your relationships?
Back when I was living in burnout, I’ll be honest that I was often times drinking AT THINGS. 👈
🍷Drinking AT a stressful day.
🍷Drinking AT a frustrating conversation…
Feeling tired and resentful and wishing, WISHING things were different.
But what I’ve learned is that the chemical chain-reaction from alcohol was not only perpetuating those feelings…
It was, in fact, INTENSIFYING them. 😠
Habit Change 101
This short video might help put into context some of the more foundational pieces of this mindset puzzle.
Think of it like Habit Change 101.
I didn’t quit drinking.… I quit trying to quit drinking.
Skeptics—buckle your seatbelts for this one:
I didn’t quit drinking.
…I quit *trying* to quit drinking.
And I’m pretty sure the ‘old me’ would have rolled her eyes at that. (…I used to roll my eyes a lot.) 😏
But, sincerely, I wholeheartedly believe in the power of mindset.
I BELIEVE IT BECAUSE I’VE SEEN IT.
🧠 Firsthand, in my own journey.
🧠 And with my clients’ and many others.
Time after time—watching people regain control over their drinking by shifting focus AWAY from the behavior itself…
