A Surprise Liquor Store, an Attitude Check, and a Beautiful Botanical Beverage.
Newsletter | July 2025
Alright so, a bougie liquor store just went in next door to my dentist.
And, at first, I was annoyed.
👉 Not gonna lie.
I thought “Are you serious? In a strip mall full of wellness vendors?”
But that’s the society we live in, right?
Alcohol is just… everywhere.
Not only grocery stores and bars, but it’s found its way into crafting events, hair salons, marathons, even yoga studios.
So I gave myself a little attitude check.
I mean, if I got annoyed at every liquor store or “pop up” bar in this city, I’d spend a lot of my time being annoyed.
Better to let it go… or even better, find the gift.
👉 Today, I opted for the latter.
I decided to go in and check ‘em out—ask if they had a Zero Proof section. (…people don’t know we want it if we don’t ask for it, right?)
And you know what? I was pleasantly surprised!
They had a whole section of alcohol-free beers, ready-made mocktails [which I didn’t buy because they were ridiculously expensive], de-alcoholized prosecco, and even some fancy-looking adaptogenic, zero-proof spirits!
🍸
After a lovely conversation with the woman behind the counter, I walked away with some fresh margarita mix [that I plan to sip with some Free Spirits Non-Alcoholic “Tequila”] as a complement to tacos this evening. 🌮
And a beautiful bottle of Drømme—“Calm” [because I’m a sucker for packaging] as my new summertime nightcap. 🍵
Some of you who are new to this adventure in alcohol-freedom may prefer to avoid liquor stores for a while… and that’s completely fair.
Please follow your gut on this.
I sat down to write this today for a couple of reasons:
1️⃣ I love sharing delicious AF treats. 😋
2️⃣ I want you to know that it’s possible to walk into a liquor store without feeling tempted or triggered!
It’s possible to reach a level of true freedom that allows you to navigate a world that’s trying to sell you booze at the dentist. At the shoe store. At the gym.
It’s possible to feel like you're NOT missing out or pining for something that you “can’t have”… but rather to simply feel solid and confident in your decision not to drink alcohol.
It can feel easy.
As easy as deciding not to eat something you don’t like eating.
(…I personally have zero inner conflict over not eating organ meats… because there is no part of me that wants to eat organ meats. The same is possible for booze.)
☝️ This may sound impossible. Or it might even sound like a goal you don’t want to achieve!
(…I didn’t want that, at first.)
But again—I just want you to know that it IS possible NOT TO WANT to drink.
🍹 TRY THIS
The folks over at Drømme were frustrated by the lack of quality in the NA space so they embarked on a mission to inspire new mocktail experiences "that aren’t defined by alcohol, for people who aren’t defined by alcohol.”
DRØMME CALM
A bespoke and complex blend of quality botanicals, adaptogens, and nootropics. Relax your stressors and quiet your mind—without the effects of alcohol.
I really enjoyed it as is, poured over ice.
🙋♀️ CONSIDER THIS
When I walked into that liquor store today, I saw all of the shiny bottles lined up in rows and I thought “Oo pretty! I wonder if they have anything for me.”
I didn’t feel pulled towards the whiskey. [my old favorite] 🥃
I didn’t feel tempted by the wine. 🍷
I just felt curious and… free.
🧘♀️
In my life right now now, I drink as much as I want whenever I want.
…I just haven’t wanted to drink alcohol in a long time. (Coming up on 3 years.)
If you’d like a little more of this freedom and ease in your own life, you know where to find me.
☺️
IN SHORT? If you're feeling stuck in your life, or stuck in your drinking... you can change things for the better.
