3 reasons I don’t say “forever.”

Sure, making a firm decision is incredibly helpful when attempting to change your behavior—with drinking especially.

BUT.

Putting your goal too far out in front can have the opposite intended effect...

Committing to doing anything “forever” can feel daunting, and it can trigger all sorts of default-survival-settings in your brain, like:

❌ Worry

❌ Doubt

❌ Fear of Missing Out

❌ Fear of Failure

WHY I DON’T SAY FOREVER

1. OVERWHELM. Like walking towards the horizon, “forever” is an ever-moving target which can feel unattainable.

2. ALL-OR-NOTHING is a set-up. In what other areas of our lives do we define success by 100% accuracy?

3. CELEBRATION is key! But if “forever” is the goal... when do we know that we’ve succeeded!?

As soon as we tell [our brains] that we cannot have something [that we think we want]… it starts an internal tug-of-war.

That’s why they call it WILL POWER… because you are trying to overpower your own will. 🥊

The science of habit change has proven that little wins build momentum towards bigger ones...

So, like an archer trying to learn to hit a target: Start with your arrow a few feet from the bullseye.

When you hit your mark, take a step back. 🎯

**Repeat**

Think of a goal that feels ATTAINABLE to you in this moment.

And celebrate the H€LL out of it when you reach it! 🎉

Then take a step back.

**That’s it**

Positive emotion pulls you forward into change with a success rate that blows willpower, shame, and deprivation out of the water…

💗 You’ve got this.

💗 What’s your goal for today? Let me know?
